(More customer reviews)Despite the last edition of this book being published in 2008 I have to say this is still a very detailed and relevant guide to San Francisco.
This travel pack includes the guidebook itself, as well as a pull out map with city street and California road details. The book starts off with a brief introduction and history of San Francisco before exploring the specific areas of the city in more detail. This also has additional chapters with details of the surrounding areas and general travel tips.
Each chapter has a page describing the history, features and feel of each area, as well as a sidebar with specific sights that you must see. It then goes on to explain and describe these sights. There are also numerous sidebars with additional information about the city and area in question and the whole book has wonderful photography throughout to tantalise and build your anticipation during the planning stages. There area also maps dotted throughout to help you locate the sights mentioned and help you get your bearings.
I have also the read the DK San Francisco guide and I have to say that although that one has beautiful illustrations and photos, this Globetrotter guide is easier to use and glean the appropriate information from. The DK book feels a touch cluttered by comparison. This is also smaller which makes it easier to slip into your day bag and carry around with you. This has plenty of info about restaurants and hotels, but as with any guidebook it pays to check your facts online before making plans, especially if the book is a few years out of date.
Overall this is a very clear, informative and attractive guidebook and I only hope Globetrotter decide to update it soon.
