Since the Great Earthquake and Fire of San Francisco in 1906 most U.S. Customs passenger arrival records have been unavailable since they were destroyed. However, this abstraction of records for passengers departing San Francisco during the first part of the 1850s allows the researcher a glimpse into a lost world. This book series stands right up there with that of Louis J. Rasmussen who many years before wrote a similar series about inbound passengers.
