For example, everyone knows about AT&T Park, home of the World Champion San Francisco Giants. While the ballpark is one of the finest in the country, and is a great place to visit, few people know about the China Basin Park, an open quiet space by McCovey Point. This beautiful spot, right on the shore, offers shoreline views of the ballpark, a nice green open area perfect for picnics and walking the dog, and some interesting information about each of the Giants teams that played in San Francisco from 1958 to 1999.
The book breaks down peaceful places by category, area, and alphanumerically, so it's easy to find places to visit in the San Francisco, the East Bay, Marin County and the Peninsula. San Francisco listings are broken down further by neighborhood, if you only want to venture around the city. The author did her homework and provides interesting historical background about each of the spots, so the book is well-researched. And it has useful maps, photos, and even public transit directions if you are not planning to rent a car.
If you are looking for a different kind of travel guide, then "Peaceful Places San Francisco" is the perfect choice. Highly recommended.
