TIME OUT SAN FRANCISCO shows San Francisco to be a city that's both wealthy and socially and politically liberal, tolerating many different cultures, races, religions, and sexual orientations. It describes all of the sightseeing, dining, nightlife, and shopping opportunities in the city and surrounding areas, as well as listing the radio stations in the area, although you might want to know that KKSF is now classic rock. Overall, though, this book is a great guide to the City By The Bay.

San Francisco has rebounded nicely from the dotcom disaster, with tourism strong and getting stronger. And why not? At a compact 47 square miles, it's the most European-like, easily experienced major city in America. This illustrated guide gives readers all they need to know to maximize a visit. Independent critics choose the best - and most overrated - in accommodations, dining, and sights. There are also tips on informative walks, corner bars, the renowned gay scene, and even places to rediscover the city's glorious history of gold rush mining, beatniks, and hippies. A full feature on the nearby wine country is included.
