Frommer's Irreverent Guide to San Francisco (Irreverent Guides)
I read the book nearly cover to cover a month before my husband and I went to SF in Sept. 2008 (2nd visit). The humor kept me interested in this guidebook, as guidebooks tend to be boring. It does snub it's nose at tourist traps, so if Fisherman's Wharf is your main interest, I do not recommend it for you, but I found the snub endearing in this book, and we still visited Fisherman's Wharf - it's really not as bad as the book makes it sound. I found the book to be useful around the city at various times during our trip. We really used the recommendations for eating on the cheap all over the city during the day, and were pleased with every place we ate. I also appreciated that is was small enough that it was not a pain to carry around in my small purse. I would purchase another Irreverent Guide for another city based on my experience.
