(More customer reviews)As a native San Franciscan looking to re-appreciate the city I grew up in as an adult, I've purchased a couple of guidebooks for my own locale. This one is now marked left and right with post-its for places I've tried and loved and places I still want to check out. I love it. It hits up so many trendy and happening places and long-time favorites of locals as well. I've only found it to go wrong about 1/100 times, and that's due to personal opinion. I'm not sure about its info on hotels, but I'd probably use it as a supplement to another book if I were a tourist. If you're looking for a genuine SF experience, starting out in some of the restaurants, bars, and destinations recommended by this book is a good idea.
One of the great things I've found about the Urban Travel Guides besides their ability to capture the of-the-moment hip spots is their DISCREETNESS--the fact that you can remove the vinyl cover (which is printed with the title, etc) and carry and flip through a small book that in no way gives away your touristness and does not invite unwanted advice or well-meant but un-needed help from passers-by.
It's helped me find some great places and I'm still enjoying it. People often ask how I found out about the places I share. I just say it comes with being a native : )
